Reviews
Synopsis: With the publication of The Savvy Woman’s Guide to Menopause: Before, During, and Beyond, Dr. Julia Schlam Edelman has created the definitive guide to navigating the physical, mental, and emotional changes associated with menopause. With over 30 years of experience as a gynecologist and menopause clinician, Dr. Edelman provides evidence-based advice for managing symptoms and preventive health strategies through a variety of approaches, including lifestyle adjustments, hormonal and non-hormonal treatments, and alternative remedies.
The Savvy Woman’s Guide to Menopause empowers the non-specialist general reader to understand the latest information about optimizing their health in midlife and beyond by addressing critical topics like cancer prevention and the impact of cultural, medical, and demographic factors on women’s health as they relate to perimenopause, menopause, and postmenopause.
This indispensable guide features:
– Practical strategies for managing hot flashes, sleep disturbances, mood changes, and memory challenges.
– Comprehensive insights into hormonal and non-hormonal treatments, alternative remedies, and precision medicine.
– Guidance on lifestyle choices and medical strategies to reduce the risk of cancer, cardiovascular issues, osteoporosis, and diabetes.
– Exploration of how age, sex, race, and sexual orientation influence menopause experiences and treatment options.
Critique: The Savvy Woman’s Guide to Menopause: Before, During, and Beyond is a practical, comprehensive, and exceptionally informative guide to mastering menopause and thriving through the transition. It is impressively “reader friendly” in organization and presentation, especially for the non-specialist general reader. Although the targeted readership is women facing the onset of menopause, this book will also prove of immense value for the men in their lives. While especially and unreservedly recommended as a basic addition to personal, professional, community, health center, medical school, and college/university Women’s Health & Medicine collections, it is also available in paperback and digital formats.
Editorial Note: Julia Schlam Edelman, MD, FACOG, is a Yale graduate, Columbia Medical School graduate, and Harvard residency-trained gynecologist. She is a Menopause Society Certified Practitioner recognized internationally for her expertise in midlife women’s health.

Testimonials
Dr. Edelman is very kind and makes an effort to listen to her patients. My previous doctor didn’t treat me nearly as well as Dr. Edelman does. I reccomended all my friends come here because she is amazing!
I have been seeing Dr. Edelman for over 10 years. She and her staff are thorough, professional and caring.
Dr Edelman is an expert in her field. Always friendly, and her staff is great. Emessella treatments are amazing!
I would send anyone I love directly to Dr. Edelman for their gyn care (and I do). She’s the best and her staff is terrific!
After years of embarrassing urine leakage, wearing pantie liners every day I decided due to the confidence I have in Dr. Edelman to restore my bladder using ThermiVa treatments. From the very first treatment, I was so impressed. I haven’t had to wear liner or had any leakage. I was skeptical but I am so happy I trusted Dr. Edelmans suggestion. No surgery, no downtime, no pain. Her entire staff was so accommodating and helpful.
I have been going to Dr. Edelman’s office now for a year. She is definitely very knowledgeable, kind, and caring. I would definitely recommend her and her staff to anyone.
Dr. Edelman is just that for me. No matter what your issue is, she will offer help and kindness. She is straightforward, knowledgeable and professional. Her efficient staff smile a lot and they try to satisfy your needs. As an aging woman adjusting to various changes in my body, I value Dr. Edelman’s experience and advice.
I have to write this review because it has been SELDOM, especially in this climate, to have a doctor actually sit down and address ALL your problems and listen to you. The staff and doctors at this clinic were beyond exceptional. Dr. Romano actually addressed every little issue I’ve had, and their knowledge of perimenopause was amazing. I’ve had such a hard time getting an appt at my previous gyno, and when I did, they were so understaffed it was always rushed and quick. I highly highly highly recommend this office. I can’t believe we have this gem right in Middleboro!
